Just uploaded firmware with this fix.
https://github.com/Jerware/GameFrameV2_WiFi/tree/master/compiled
Jeremy WilliamsKeymasterOh, for SMS use the recipe I’ve already shared here. Simple.
Jeremy WilliamsKeymasterI think I get it now. I’ll include instructions on creating your own recipes from scratch in the docs.
Jeremy WilliamsKeymasterOkay, that’s the standard “THAT” screen for Particle’s Call a Function action. I would expect you to see that if you’re making your own recipe, but not if you use one of my recipes. Are you making your own? Also, I don’t see anything about Arlo there…?
Jeremy WilliamsKeymasterMaybe you could attach a screen shot of what you see?
Jeremy WilliamsKeymasterRight. I’ve been meaning to fix that. I’ll get that done tonight.
Jeremy WilliamsKeymasterBy the way, the SMS recipe is great for testing. Just set that up and then text commands like…
Play bird
Brightness 7
Color #0000FF
Power off
Power on
Alert 00system/wifi/issJeremy WilliamsKeymasterHuh, that’s interesting. Try erasing whatever is in that field and typing in the following:
00system/wifi/iss
Jeremy WilliamsKeymasterYou’re absolutely right. I need to provide documentation for this, and I’ll write that up tonight. In the meantime, explore the recipes I’ve published and you might be able to deduce what you need.
In short, Alerts are intended to play non-looping, one-shot animations like the ones in inside the /wifi folder on your microSD card (e.g. /00system/wifi/email). Alerts are cool because they flash the screen yellow before the animation, play, and then resume the previously playing animation exactly where it was.
Play simply plays the animation you pass, stopping the currently playing animation and not flashing the screen.
In either case, you can pass any animation (e.g. /bird, /dance, /00system/wifi/twitter). Just be careful with Alerts because if you pass it a looping animation, it will loop forever! 🙂
Jeremy WilliamsKeymasterPatrick: IFTTT is super fun and accessible. Let me know if you hit any trouble. It will probably help someone else too.
If it’s hung on the wall, you need to replace the back (and it should hardly bow at all). Otherwise you’re welcome to leave it off. That’s what I do. It’s one less thing to get in the way of your Wi-Fi signal.
Jeremy WilliamsKeymasterHard to tell but, yes, dark means dim on the Game Frame (lack of light) just like a movie screen.
Jeremy WilliamsKeymasterI had some spare time tonight so the feature is in the last GitHub commit. Installing that firmware is part of the setup process, so you don’t need to do anything special.
Once you’re up and running, activate the “Control Game Frame with SMS” recipe over on IFTTT and then send the message “brightness 50%” (or “b 50%” for short). Things get a little weird below 10%, with some colors disappearing to complete black, but see what works best for you and your environment. Let me know how it goes!
P.S. You can automate this by using the “Schedule Game Frame Brightness” recipe. Just replace the 0-7 field with a percentage. Call it a hidden feature. 🙂
Jeremy WilliamsKeymasterTexting percentage of full brightness is interesting. Let’s go with that one. Keep in mind, you’ll also be able to automate this using IFTTT time of day actions. I’ve already setup a template for changing the brightness, and I’ll share another later that uses this new feature you’ve requested.

Some other things to keep in mind — any new brightness commands will overrule the custom brightness, as will a power cycle. And I can’t stress how important a strong Wi-Fi signal is. 🙂
I’ll get on it this weekend. Follow up here when your adapter arrives and we’ll give it a shot.
Jeremy WilliamsKeymasterOh, great! Yes, we just need to figure out how to implement it. Would you like to send a special text message to your Game Frame whenever you want the ultra low setting? Or do you want to assign a new permanent level to the lowest brightness setting? Which would work best for you? Or any other ideas?
Jeremy WilliamsKeymasterInteresting! I can certainly provide that ability, but it would be easiest to implement using the new Wi-Fi Adapter. Assuming you have the new Game Frame (not the Kickstarter version), have you considered picking one of those up?
